New York?

Nicole Lee May 16th, 2008

I sent in a request for more information on the Culinary Institute of America today. I don’t know what I’m thinking. It’s over 20k a year, and it’s in New York. I know I can’t afford the school or to live there, but I want to see what it’s all about. Maybe there is a smaller, less expensive school that could get me pretty good training, but I’m not sure. This is one of those things where you have to dish out the dough to get the return.

I thought about asking my mom if she could get a hold of my aunt so I could go out there and visit, but I know I can’t afford that either. Which really, really sucks.

I’m also starting a new food project, but I’m not going to show you all just yet. You’ll have to keep an eye out.

Oh! I have a question for my readers. Have any of you come across Food and Wine Magazine? I was reading some of their online articles and they’re pretty good. I’m thinking I might buy the $20 subscription to their print copy so I can see how they set things up, how the photography is and all of that, but I’m not sure it’s worth it. Comments?

A good summer

Read on!

Sara, Kat and I had a lovely picnic yesterday (see Sara’s photos here). Then I picked up all four books in The Enchanted Forest Chronicles so we could read them aloud. We also started playing Silent Hill 2, which is awesome!

Other than that? Nothing is happening, and that’s okay by me. =)

A sick, sad world

On April 29th, 2008 the game Grand Theft Auto 4 came out. I have heard talk that this is supposed to be one of the best selling games of all time. That it is supposed to sell more copies than any other game released in history. I know at least three or four people who beat it within a day or two.

Now, I’ve come across these games in the past, and I think they’re stupid. I have no qualms with violence or anything like that, though. It’s not about beating people with pipes or whatever. It’s the fact that you have to fuck whores to play the game successfully. That’s right. Do drugs and fuck prostitutes.

Taking this idea a step further, I know that Josh’s, a boy that I work with, mom stood in line at midnight for this game. She bought it for him, and let him skip school to play it. Josh is fifteen.

So when Jarren turned to and said, somewhat jokingly, “You should buy me Grand Theft Auto 4,” I had a fit. Right there in the store. Why, for fuck’s sake, do you think I would be willing to perpetuate the sick, degrading, and disgusting social fall? Why would I buy a game that is fucking PORN?! And it is, I don’t care if they’re real or not. Hentai is porn, video games are too.

I feel the same way about God of War and God of War 2, and I will not have that in my house. I know that some people feel like I’m overreacting. I know Jarren did (though we talked about it, he knows where I’m coming from, and respects that) and it’s hard for me to explain why I feel so strongly about this, but the fact of the matter is, I just think it’s sick. So forgive me for being so prune-ish, but god damn.

What do you guys think? Are you for or against this kind of thing? Am I acting like a grandma, or is there some merit here?

(By the way, this entry is not nearly as angry as I’m feeling. I would like to include the emotion, but I would become completely irrational, use a lot of curse words, and make absolutely no sense. So yeah… =) )

I am Iron Man

Nicole Lee May 4th, 2008

OMG!

Iron Man was so good. I’ve never been a big comic book fanatic, but I did run across some in my younger years. So when this comic to movie craze started I had some clue as to what was going on. No, I’m not a total nerd and I can’t list you the events in every issue of every persona, but I have a pretty good handle on the goings on, you know?

Well, Superman and Batman have been great. Spiderman was pretty good as well. The Punisher and The Incredible Hulk not so much, nor Hellboy. Constantine was pretty sweet, I enjoyed X-Men too.

But then I saw Iron Man and most of the others were put to shame. Robert Downey Jr. did an absolutely amazing job as Tony Stark, and this is the first time in quite a while that I didn’t feel like I was wasting nine dollars on bullshit.

Great movie. I totally recommend it to everyone, not just my fellow losers. =D
